Clementine, kitten with what some may call issues. doesn't like to be picked up. Funniest cat I've ever met. Happy at Purrever Ranch
In May of 2004,  I dropped by the shelter to put some aloe vera on some of the sick kitties noses in isolation.  I was informed it
would be a sad day & that euthanizations would take place.  At first I tried to accept the fact that CAS was a kill shelter.  I tried to convince myself I had several rescued cats that I was caring for & simply could not afford to take any more in.

I asked if I could feed some tuna to the kitty cat for her last meal & was given permission to do so.  As I opened the can,
the cat began talking to me.  Mewing up a storm.  She didn't have to open her mouth though, I heard every word she said.
I refused to look at her.  It was then that the cat began waving her paw at me to get my attention---I swear--she waved her
right paw up & down.  I hesitantly looked into her eyes & heard her scream, "HELP ME!"  With tears in my eyes, I opened
her cage, picked her up & felt the terror running thru her body.  I held her tight & whispered softly, "you're coming home
with me, Special." I renamed her Special because that is what she is.

It was at that moment that PurrEver Ranch, the cat sanctuary, I've been dreaming of for years became a reality.

I'd tell you I've been rescuing cats all my life, but truth be known---they've been rescuing me..  .

PurrEver Ranch's Mission & Values
PurrEver Ranch opened it's cat doors on May 28, 2004 when I realized that even though there are numerous animal rescue groups in our area, none of them focused on the homeless, senior felines.   Most cats over 12 are considered "unadoptable" at shelters & euthanized.

Our Mission
(1) management and maintenance of a safe and loving sanctuary for homeless, geriatric cats;  (2) provision of proper medical treatment and care;   (3) education of the community about proper feline care, behavior, and ways to prevent cruelty and neglect;  (4)  the establishment of partnerships with other animal rescue groups in order to increase access to resources and to provide information and referral support regarding feline rescue;  (5) gentling of feral kittens & placement into loving homes, and (6) spay/neuter of feral cats.

PurrEver Ranch Sanctuary provides its mission through the following core value philosophy:
A. Humane Society with compassion for all living creatures and a  belief that life on earth is sacred.
B. That community education & sterilization  are an integral and essential part of the Sanctuary's mission in decreasing the number of homeless, abused, and abandoned cats.
C. A dedication to the care and "re-socialization" of all cats that are at the Sanctuary regardless of their prior history
The Reason

To you, from all your rescue cats...
I would've died that day if not for you.
I would've given up on life if not for your kind eyes.
I would've used my claws in fear if not for your gentle hands.
I would have left this life believing that all humans don't care
Believing there is no such thing as fur that isn't matted,
skin that isn't flea bitten, good food and enough of it, beds to sleep on,
someone to love me, to show me I deserve love just because I exist.
Your kind eyes, your loving smile, your gentle hands
Your big heart saved me...
You saved me from the terror of the pound,
Soothing away the memories of my old life.
You have taught me what it means to be loved.
I have seen you do the same for other cats like me.
I have heard you ask yourself in times of despair
Why you do it
When there is no more money, no more room, no more homes
You open your heart a little bigger, stretch the money a little tighter
Make just a little more room...to save one more like me.
I tell you with the gratitude and love that shines in my eyes
In the best way I know how
Reminding you why you go on trying.
I am the reason
The cats before me are the reason
As are the ones who come after.
Our lives would've been wasted, our love never given
We would die if not for you.
~ Jim Willis

I looked at all the caged animals in the shelter...
the cast-offs of human society.
I saw in their eyes love and hope,
fear and dread,
sadness, and betrayal.
And I was angry.
"God," I said, "this is terrible!
Why don't you do something?"
God was silent for a moment,
and then spoke softly,
"I have done something," was the reply.
"I created you."

Rescuer & Author

Do not weep for me when I am gone
For I have friends in the great beyond.
All the little ones I used to feed
Will come to me in my time of need.
They will purr and bark in great delight,
And I will hold and hug them tight.
Oh what a great day that will be
When my furry friends all welcome me.
